Face Condition
Deep nose to mouth lines (marionette lines) are due primarily to a loss of volume around the mouth in the bone and soft tissue, with ligament laxity.
Together with the effects of gravity, deep lines start to form that are often associated with ageing and can contribute to a person looking generally grumpy or sad however they feel inside.
As part of the full-facial assessment and expert medical opinion, Owen will assess the individual characteristics and formulate a treatment plan (often in conjunction with other areas around the mouth or midface). For example, cheek enhancement leads to increased tightness in the muscular layer (the SMAS) which transfers to the muscle area at the corner of the mouth. Mainly treatment is primary to the area of volume deficiency with dermal fillers and sometimes botox injections to relax the DAO muscle which is responsible for frowning.
Treatment of Marionette lines is primarily with dermal fillers to provide support and structure to the soft tissue and lead to straightening and upturning of the mouth’s corners.
This can be combined with carefully targeted muscle-relaxing injections to weaken the muscles contributing to downturned mouth corners.
