Body Treatment

Dermal Fillers for Hands

Hand rejuvenation is an increasingly commonly requested treatment, also known as the ‘Radiesse Hand Lift’ because of the special long-lasting dermal filler used.

It is the ideal solution for patients concerned with the ageing appearance of their hands, and fortunately we are able to offer this aesthetic treatment in our Mumbles clinic.

Frequently, cosmetic improvement focuses on the face, yet one of the most telling body features which looks ageing are our hands which are neglected. As for the face, they lose skin tone and the soft tissue shrinks because of loss of collagen fibres, leading to a skeletal and aged appearance.

FAQ's

Dermal Fillers for Hands Faqs

What is Radiesse and how often are treatments needed?

Radiesse is a calcium-based filler that is robust and can stand the pressures and movement within the hand. This restores lost volume in the back of the hands and is done with a very simple and convenient procedure, usually with some topical local anaesthetic for a few minutes. The treatment is highly effective and delivers long-lasting results. The first injections often last a year or so, but subsequent maintenance ones can last for 18 months or more.

What is the cost of dermal fillers in the hands?

Typically around 2 ml filler is needed. For information regarding the cost please see our price list.

What is the downtime with dermal fillers in the hands?

You can resume most activities or return to work right away, but it is generally recommended that you avoid intense physical activity for the first 24-48 hours to minimise swelling and bruising. Although avoidance of alcohol is often suggested, there is no evidence this worsens bleeding, but we recommend very moderate intake for the first day after treatment with dermal fillers.

Are there any complications or side effects from fillers?

As with any medical treatment, there can be side effect although these are usually mild given that hyaluronic acid is a natural substance. Transient swelling is common, sometimes with occasional redness and bruising which settle after a couple of days. Dr Thomas will discuss all possible side effects at the time of the assessment.

Although Radiesse isn’t yet reversible, the risk of blood vessel complications is less than in the face, and with expert techniques this is minimised further.
