Face Treatment
With ageing, recession of the bone in the jawline and sagging of the overlying soft tissues can lose the defined and strong jawline which is so important for framing the face and altering the shape (feminising or masculinising for example).
Changes and loss of definition can cause significant ageing. Dermal fillers can reverse these changes and create a radiant and attractive look with revolumisation and rejuvenation.
This can cause significant ageing. Dermal fillers such as Radiesse can reverse these changes and create a radiant and attractive look with revolumisation and rejuvenation.

Dr Thomas will create a bespoke plan which can include careful application of robust dermal fillers around the jawline and chin to produce a cleaner and more pleasing contoured look. Dr Thomas will adapt the look dependent on facial measurements and most importantly whether this is for a male or female jawline.
Dermal filler injections such as Radiesse along the jawline are used in balance with the other facial proportions with the individualised full-face treatment plan that Dr Thomas will propose in conjunction with all of his patients.

Because we make a bespoke treatment plan with every patient, and every person will need different amounts of filler, we charge per syringe but make sure that we are as economical as possible with optimal technique.
The amount can vary considerably depending on the state of the soft tissues and how much recession there has been in the bone of the mandible (the chin and jawline). This in the jawline alone is typically around 1-2 mL on each side – Dr Thomas will always discuss this during the aesthetic medical assessment.
For information regarding the cost of a syringe of filler please see our price list.
On average we would expect dermal filler to typically last around 12-18 months although this can be more in some individuals. In the chin we select fillers that tend to have a more robust and elastic character to provide volume and lift for the overlying soft tissues. This includes Juvederm Voluma, Radiesse and Restylane/Belotero dermal fillers.
Recovery time varies for each patient and for each type of filler injected. You can resume most activities right away, but it is generally recommended that you avoid intense physical activity for the first 24-48 hours to minimise swelling and bruising.
It is best to avoid touching the area or applying makeup for around 12 hours after treatment and avoid flying for 24-48 hours. It is recommended as a precaution to avoid alcohol for 12 hours to reduce any risk of bruising (although moderate intake is unlikely to lead to any serious issues).
The treatment is with a cannula and is not usually painful. Dr Thomas takes great care to minimise discomfort further with cooling, vibration, meticulous technique, and uses dermal fillers in his Swansea clinic that are pre-mixed with local anaesthetic (therefore minimising the discomfort from subsequent injections).
As with any medical treatment, there can be side effects although these are usually mild given that hyaluronic acid is a natural substance. Mild swelling is common, occasionally with redness or bruising.
Serious complications from dermal fillers are rare. Although no area of the face is completely without risk, the jawline is one of the safest and hyaluronic acid fillers also have a substance that can break up the dermal filler and, in most cases, reverse the effects of blood vessel blockages.
