Face Treatment
As we age, we lose volume in our temples, giving the face an appearance which is sunken and more skeletonised, but can be treated with dermal fillers.
This can also drag back the outer portion of the eyebrow, losing the natural shape which gives a youthful appearance and leading in some cases to a peanut-shaped skull.

Dr Owen assesses his patients carefully and practices temple rejuvenation with different types of high-quality dermal fillers at his Swansea Bay practice, typically using hyaluronic acid fillers.
As part of the full facial assessment, the optimal shape of the temple is determined depending on gender and with comparison of facial proportions using specialist equipment. Care is taken to inject in the appropriate area with meticulous technique to avoid many of the important blood vessels in the area.
Dermal Fillers for temples to rejuvenate can often be combined with other filler treatments and wrinkle relaxing injections to restore a youthful fullness, helping to reduce a skeletonised appearance and usually lifts the tail of the eyebrow.

Because we make a bespoke treatment plan with every patient, and every person will need different amounts, we charge per volume but make sure that we are as economical as possible with optimal technique.
Typically around 1 ml is needed on each side. Dr Thomas will discuss the individualised treatment plan with every patient; for information regarding the cost please see our price list.
On average we would expect dermal filler to typically last 12-18 months in the temple region but this can vary significantly. We only use the best and most expensive products such as Juvederm Voluma, Restylane Lyft, Belotero and Teoxane RHA family.
Recovery time varies for each patient and each type of filler injected. You can resume most activities right away, but it is generally recommended that you avoid intense physical activity for the first 24-48 hours to minimise swelling and bruising.
It is best to avoid touching the area or applying makeup for around 12 hours after treatment and avoid flying for 24-48 hours.
Although many clinics advise against drinking alcohol for 24 hours, there is no evidence this is beneficial and can be restrictive – we do however suggest moderate amounts are sensible.
The treatment is with a fine needle and is not usually painful. Dr Thomas takes great care to minimise discomfort further with cooling, vibration, meticulous technique, and uses fillers that are pre-mixed with local anaesthetic (therefore minimising the discomfort from subsequent injections).
As with any medical treatment, there can be side effect although these are usually mild given that hyaluronic acid is a natural substance. Transient swelling is common sometimes with occasional redness and bruising which settle after a couple of days. Dr Thomas will discuss all possible side effects at the time of the assessment.
Serious complications are minimised with careful technique, expert knowledge of anatomy and frequently blunt-tipped microcannula. Fortunately, hyaluronic acid fillers also have a substance which can break up the dermal filler and reverse the effects of blood vessel blockages.
