The fat-freezing procedure is often a one-time thing, although you can get it done again after 2-3 months for a more dramatic effect. It takes only 35 minutes and isn’t painful, although it might feel cold at first.
The treatment was first introduced by Coolsculpting, but Owen is delighted to have available the latest generation Coolshaping2 machine which can treat 4 areas simultaneously, from smaller areas (double chin), up to large areas on the abdomen.
The area you want to target is frozen and this causes the fat cells to be destroyed, then they are removed from the body through lymph drainage. It takes 8-12 weeks before the results become visible.
Our fat freezing machine is suitable for both larger areas and small single areas.
The treatment compliments fat-dissolving injections which area better for very small localised pockets of fat that won’t fit into the fat freezing applicators.

Cryolipolysis (fat freezing) is performed in our clinic room in Swansea, Wales. The size and shape of the fatty accumulation is observed and the region to be treated is delineated with a skin-marking pencil.
A handheld instrument is utilized to freeze the layer of fat cells (adipocytes) beneath the skin.
To start with, a gel pad is put on the area to guard the skin. Then, the fatty bump is sucked or vacuumed into the instrument’s opening. As suction is applied, you may have a sensation of pulling. These sensations, intense cold and other potential sensations – tingling, stinging, aching lessens after a couple of minutes as the region gets numb during the cooling procedure. The fat layer is gradually cooled to the target temperature of -5°C.
It takes only 35 minutes per treatment and four areas can be managed simultaneously. After the region is treated, the instrument is detached. The area may be massaged for 2 to 3 minutes to help with breakdown of fat cells.
Studies have shown that the fat cells are more vulnerable to the cold than other cells in the body, like the skin cells.
This low temperature injury to the fat cells causes the body to respond with an inflammatory reaction which leads to their death.
As part of the natural defense mechanism of the body, macrophages, a type of white blood cell, move to the affected area and help to eliminate the dead fat cells and other debris.
Research has demonstrated that the average amount of fat loss in the treated area with fat freezing is between 15 to 28 percent around 4 months after the initial treatment.
However, it is possible to observe the changes as soon as 3 weeks after the procedure.
A significant change can be seen after 2 months.
If needed the fat freezing treatments are repeated with a minimum of six weeks between sessions.
There is very little downtime. The area can be slightly red with numbness and sensory change typically over a couple of days although there have been reports that the numbness can last for up to a few weeks in some people. Most people are able to go about their normal business and there are very few restrictions in what he can do after the treatment.
After undergoing cryolipolysis, it is possible to experience mild to moderate discomfort.
Additionally, there is a slight probability of nerve pain.
In some cases, the skin may not be as smooth as it was prior to the procedure.
Paradoxical fat hyperplasia, a complication that affects less than 1% of patients, occurs when the number of fat cells in the treated area increases instead of decreasing. In these very unusual cases, liposuction may be needed to remove the enlarged area of fat.
Cryolipolysis is not suitable for those who are obese (BMI body mass index more than 30). However, people with flabby skin may be able to receive the treatment after a consultation.
This method is not suitable for individuals with thin bulges because of the lack of density.
Furthermore, people with a strong reaction to cold temperatures such as cryoglobulinemia, cold urticaria, and paroxysmal cold hemoglobinuria should not use this technique.
Other contraindications include:
Poor blood circulation in the area to be treated, Raynaud’s disease, hernias, pregnancy, breastfeeding, and those with electronic devices like pacemakers should also avoid cryolipolysis. Additionally, if there is an injury, eczema, or inflammation near the treated area, then it is not suitable.
