Dermal Fillers
for Tear Trough

Tear trough dermal fillers are injected in the area under the eye used to combat the sunken area under the eye (tear trough) dark circles or ageing signs.

As we age, skin thinning, volume loss around the midface and orbit and laxity of some of the soft tissues underneath the eye produces a sunken or hollowed appearance often with the tear trough groove becoming evident. This is very ageing, adding years to a person’s appearance but can be reversed with careful application of dermal fillers.

FAQS

Because we make a bespoke treatment plan with every patient, and every person will need different amounts, we charge per syringe but make sure that we are as economical as possible with optimal technique.

Typically around 0.5-1 ml is needed on each side initially. It is imperative in the tear trough to start slowly and add more if required as excessive swelling can look very unsightly, and Dr Thomas takes great care to avoid this. Dr Thomas always discusses the individualised treatment plan with every patient; for information regarding the cost please see our price list.

On average we would expect dermal filler to typically last around 9-12 months although this can be more in some individuals. We only use the best and most expensive products such as Juvederm Volbella, Belotero balance and Teoxane RHA-2.

Recovery time varies for each patient and for each type of filler injected. You can resume most activities right away, but it is generally recommended that you avoid intense physical activity for the first 24-48 hours to minimise swelling and bruising.

It is best to avoid touching the area or applying makeup for around 12 hours after treatment and avoid flying for 24-48 hours.

Although many clinics advise against drinking alcohol for 24 hours, there is no evidence this is beneficial and can be restrictive – we do however suggest moderate amounts are sensible.

Injections are typically made below the tear trough which is sensitive and delicate, often using a cannula to minimise discomfort into the area. Dr Thomas takes great care to minimise discomfort further with cooling, vibration, meticulous technique and uses fillers that are pre-mixed with local anaesthetic (therefore minimising the discomfort from subsequent injections).

As with any medical treatment, there can be side effects although these are usually mild given that hyaluronic acid is a natural substance. Transient swelling is common sometimes with occasional redness and bruising which settle after a couple of days. Dr Thomas will discuss all possible side effects at the time of the assessment.

Serious complications are minimised with careful technique, expert knowledge of anatomy and frequently blunt-tipped microcannula. Fortunately, hyaluronic acid fillers also have a substance that can break up the dermal filler and reverse the effects of blood vessel blockages.

Facial rejuvenation

The injectable treatment can be applied with a very fine needle or in most cases a blunt microcannula because of the sensitive nature of the area and to reduce bruising or complications, with a need for an excellent technique. Dr Owen is experienced in this, has undertaken additional masterclass training with Dr Uche, the ‘Teartrough King” to ensure his patients have the best possible assessment and treatment.

The treatment adds volume with results appearing quickly, reducing a rejuvenated and much more youthful look to the upper face.

Dr Thomas looks at each individual and creates a bespoke treatment plan looking for balanced and harmonious facial rejuvenation.

Treatment Areas

Our precise tear trough filler treatments address under-eye hollows, a common concern that contributes to a tired appearance. We take great care to avoid overfilling, minimising the risk of oedema while achieving a refreshed and revitalised look.

“Reassuring”

“Throughout the treatment, he was reassuring, explaining each step along the way. The results are very natural, people have noticed a positive difference, but they’ve also said it doesn’t look too much or overdone. I highly recommend Dr. Owen and will be returning as required.”
