Aftercare is extremely important for any aesthetic treatments you may have. Your actions after-the-fact may have an impact on the results of your procedure, so you need to know what to do to get the best out of your investment. A fairly new development in the aesthetics world, Profhilo is an injectable hyaluronic acid (HA) treatment that can do wonders for dry or ageing skin. So, what are the dos and don’ts after Profhilo?
After your Profhilo procedure you should make sure that you encourage your skin to heal well, by staying hydrated and eating well. Bring down swelling by applying a cold compress or take some paracetamol to take away any pain. You should also avoid alcohol, caffeine, or anything that could thin your blood and worsen bruising. Care should also be taken to avoid infection at the injection sites.
Read on to find out more about Profhilo and the dos and don’ts of the treatments aftercare.
What Is Profhilo?
Profhilo injections are designed to combat laxity, meaning it tackles skin that has become loose and has lost its elasticity, firmness, and strength. If this is starting to occur, you may see some lines and wrinkles, which can be reduced with this treatment.
Natural hyaluronic acid is used during Prohilo treatments to not only hydrate the skin, but also encourage the production of elastin and collagen. This ‘remodels’ the skin, smoothening and tightening it. It also appears to have an anti-ageing effect, hydrating much deeper than possible with a topical moisturiser.

What Are The Dos And Don’ts After Profhilo?
This treatment is a two injection course, each being around a month apart. There isn’t any significant recovery time and results will be seen over a period of one to two months. To get the best out of your investment, you’ll need to take particular care in the immediate aftermath. Certain things can make or break the outcome, so here’s a list of just a few:
Do
- Stay Hydrated: Proper hydration not only supports the healing of your skin, but can also form part of your journey to improved skin. Achieving glowing skin can be helped by drinking enough water, and the use of Profhilo can work alongside it to give you amazing results.
- Painkillers: To avoid worsening the bruising that may come as a result of this injectable treatment, you shouldn’t take any additional medication that could thin your blood. Paracetamol is a great option for reducing possible pain and discomfort. It doesn’t have the same blood thinning effect as other painkillers, like ibuprofen.
- Eat Well: Food containing certain nutrients can aid the results of your treatment. Vitamin C, for example, is a powerful antioxidant and can contribute to your skin’s healing processes. It also supports the production of collagen, working well alongside Profhilo.
- Reduce Swelling: Although a natural reaction to an injection, you may want to reduce the amount of swelling you experience in the aftermath of your procedure. Try applying a cold compress to the affected area, or use extra pillows when heading to bed to allow excess fluid to drain.
Don’t
- Drink Coffee: For 24 hours before and after your Profhilo injection, it’s recommended to keep your caffeine intake to a minimum. Being a stimulant, coffee and other sources of caffeine can increase blood flow. This could lead to increased swelling or bruising. When receiving injectable treatments, skin healing is key, and caffeine can disrupt this.
- Drink Alcohol: You should also avoid alcohol in the 48 hours surrounding your treatment. It acts as a blood thinner, in a similar way to ibuprofen, and increases the likelihood of bruising and swelling. Alcohol can also affect your hydration levels, which is vital for seeing optimal results from Profhilo.
- Smoke: Try to avoid, or at least minimise, smoking immediately after your treatment. It constricts the blood vessels in the body, reducing oxygen supply and blood flow, and heavily impacting healing processes. The toxins found in cigarettes can also contribute to issues like premature ageing or dehydration, which is counter-intuitive to the effects of Profhilo.
- Touching The Injection Site: After the injection(s), your skin will be more sensitive and prone to bacteria. It’s advised to avoid touching or rubbing the area for at least 24 hours, in order to keep it clean and free from infection. Bacteria can also be introduced through other means, like the sweat that results from physical activity, so that should also be avoided.
