Face Treatment
As we age, tissue is lost from the chin which recedes and with loss of tension in the supporting ligaments of the mid and lower face, lines form running from the corner of the mouth down towards the chin (Marionette lines).

Rather than filling individual lines, Dr Owen understands the pathophysiology behind these processes and takes care to use dermal fillers to restore facial volume and provide structure to eliminate and smooth these lines restoring a youthful and radiant appearance. He combines different fillers in layers during the initial and refinement treatment, often using a flexible microcannula to minimise soft tissue bruising and discomfort. Building up the structure is crucial in this area to prevent the marionette lines returning.
Marionette lines are often treated in conjunction with cheek and chin augmentation and, depending on the lips’ appearance, lip augmentation with dermal fillers such as Juvederm, Restylane, Teoxane and Belotero.
PDO threads are now available in our Mumbles clinic to help produce a non-surgical facelift (and can help with nasolabial folds, jowl formation and skin laxity).

Because we make a bespoke treatment plan with every patient, and every person will need different amounts, the cost is per syringe of filler required.
Typically around 1-2 ml are needed on each side; this depends on the extent of the volume loss. Dr Thomas will discuss the individualised treatment plan with every patient; please see our price list.
On average, we would expect dermal filler to last around 12 months or so typically, but this can vary significantly. We only use the best and most expensive products from world-renowned laboratories such as Juvederm Voluma, Restylane, Belotero and the Teoxane RHA family.
Recovery time varies for each patient and each type of filler injected. You can resume most activities right away, but it is generally recommended that you avoid intense physical activity for the first 24-48 hours to minimise swelling and bruising.
It is best to avoid touching the area or applying makeup for around 12 hours after treatment and avoid flying for 24-48 hours.
Although many clinics advise against drinking alcohol for 24 hours, there is no evidence this is beneficial and can be restrictive – we do however suggest moderate amounts are sensible.
The treatment is with a fine needle into the subcutaneous tissue and is not usually painful. Dr Owen takes great care to minimise discomfort further with cooling, vibration, meticulous technique and uses fillers pre-mixed with local anaesthetic (therefore minimising the discomfort from subsequent injections).
As with any medical treatment, there can be side effect although these are usually mild given that hyaluronic acid is a natural substance. Transient swelling is common, sometimes with occasional redness and bruising which settle after a couple of days. Dr Owen will discuss all possible side effects at the time of the assessment.
Serious complications are minimised with careful technique, expert knowledge of anatomy and frequently blunt-tipped microcannula. Fortunately, hyaluronic acid fillers also have a substance which can break up the dermal filler and reverse the effects of blood vessel blockages.
