There are a range of treatments available to help you on your journey of facial enhancement. Jawline slimming injections are just one of the ways you can alter the shape of your face, achieving a more delicate facial contour. These botox injections can not only change face shape, but can also treat other issues related to the jaw muscles. So, how does jawline slimming work?
Jawline slimming works by injecting botulinum toxin, commonly known as botox, into both parts of the masseter muscle. Excessive jaw clenching and teeth grinding can enlarge the muscle, leading to a square appearance. The bulk of this muscle is reduced by the treatment, providing both aesthetic and symptomatic improvements.
Read on to find out more about how jaw slimming works and whether it’s suitable for you.
What Is The Process Behind Jaw Slimming?
This non-surgical treatment uses botulinum toxin injections, commonly referred to as botox, to both slim the face and reduce jawline pain. The botox is injected into both parts of the masseter muscle, treating a condition called bruxism.
Here at Infinity Aesthetics, we also use real-time ultrasound guidance, ensuring the accurate placement of botox and avoiding any post-treatment bulging.
What Is Bruxism?
Bruxism is characterised by excessive jaw clenching and grinding of the teeth. These actions are involuntary and are particularly present during sleep. Bruxism can lead to a range of issues, including:
- Blunting of the teeth.
- Temporomandibular joint (TMJ) issues.
- Headaches.
- Enlargement, or hypertrophy, of the jaw muscles – particularly the masseter muscles.
The hypertrophy of the masseter muscles can result in a more chiseled or square jaw appearance, which you might not want if you’re looking for a more delicate facial contour.
The bulk of these muscles is reduced when botox is injected, making the jawline look much more of an ‘upside-down triangle’ shape. Jawline slimming injections also reduce muscle activity, alleviating the symptoms of bruxism and providing significant relief from associated pain. Multiple clinical studies show significant sustained relief of symptoms from masseter activity for up to 6 months.
Can Jawline Slimming Botox Be Combined With Other Treatments?
Depending on your desired outcome, jawline slimming can be used in combination with a number of other treatments.
Symptomatic Relief
If you’re looking into botox injections to relieve some of the symptoms associated with bruxism, you may also want to consider receiving injections in the temporalis muscles.
Located over the temples and felt when the jaw is clenched, the temporalis muscles can be treated with botox to help reduce headaches and muscle tension. Whilst this treatment doesn’t typically offer any cosmetic results, addressing them in combination with the masseter muscles can bring substantial relief from discomfort.
Facial Sculpting
Jaw slimming injections can be used in conjunction with other treatments if you’re looking for aesthetic-based results. For example, you might want to consider dermal fillers in the chin for a more defined appearance.
Facial sculpting might also include the use of dermal fillers in your cheekbones, with the combination of treatments having a much more dramatic impact on your facial shape.

FAQs
How Long Does Jawline Slimming Last?
The muscle relaxing injections involved in jawline slimming start to take effect within a few weeks. They can last for months, or even years, depending on the individual. You’ll need to have the treatments repeatedly to preserve facial contouring, but results may last longer as the muscle becomes weaker.
Do Jawline Slimming Botox Injections Hurt?
To inject botox in jaw slimming treatments, a very fine needle is used. Combining this method with the liquid state of the injections, there is minimal discomfort and no need for prior numbing agents.
