Dark circles are a very common skin phenomenon, and can appear for a number of different reasons such as tiredness, alcohol intake or smoking. The thin skin beneath the eyes allows blood vessels to become more prominent, which in turn produces a darker appearance.
This can affect people’s self esteem, and make people feel more self-conscious of the skin below their eyes. However, with professional treatment, dark circles can be reduced significantly.
What Causes Dark Circles?
Dark circles become visible due to the skin being far thinner beneath the eyes than in other areas of the face. This allows blood vessels to become more prominent, causing a dark appearance. This appearance is also influenced by environmental and lifestyle factors such as alcohol intake, smoking, and sleep.
While not exclusively a sign of age, dark circles can get worse as we get older, as the loss of volume around the eye can lead to the tear trough becoming more pronounced.

This may result in a series of lifestyle changes to make which would reduce the appearance of the dark circles. The use of dermal fillers for tear trough will also be considered. Using dermal fillers stimulates the production of soft tissue and collagen, which will in turn reduce the appearance of the dark circles.
Tear trough dermal fillers can be used in conjunction with cheek augmentation and rejuvenation.
Dermal Fillers
Using nucleotide injections to stimulate collagen and soft tissue and collagen production, Dr Owen can effectively reduce the appearance of dark circles without causing swelling in the affected area. This ensures that a youthful appearance will be achieved with reduced shadowing and pigmentation. Using dermal fillers for the tear trough can provide long-lasting as there is little muscular movement, whereas several nucleotide treatments may be required to achieve the desired result.

Do Changes in Diet Have an Impact on Dark Circles?
There is a distinct correlation between diet and skin health. Consuming nutrient-dense foods will promote healthy skin, as these kinds of food will supply antioxidants, vitamins and minerals that will protect the skin from cell damage. Without these vital nutrients, dark circles and other skin blemishes will likely become more prominent.
How Effective are Topical Creams for Reducing Dark Circles?
As dark circles can be caused by a number of different factors such as UV exposure, fatigue, stress, allergies, and free radical oxidation, it is not always possible for a topical cream to reduce them. For example, using sunscreen may be a more effective solution for tackling dark circles than a topical eye cream.
Are There Any Side Effects Associated with Dark Circles Treatment?
As with any dermal filler treatment, it is likely that patients will experience mild bruising or swelling at the site of injection. However, these effects should subside in a few days following treatment.
