Face Treatment
Anti-wrinkle Botox injections (or Botulinum toxin injections) can soften or eliminate the appearance of lines and wrinkles on various parts of the face.
This is a prescription-only medicine and is used following a detailed consultation if appropriate for the client and is therefore used safely. We only use pharmacy-supplied botulinum toxin for our treatments (Botox, Azzalure and Bocouture), so you can be assured of safe and effective treatment.
Botulinum toxin effectively reduces the lines and wrinkles that occur because of muscle contraction but must be used with care and expertise to avoid excess muscle weakness which can present with complications such as drooping of the brow.
Used regularly, these injections prevent or delay worsening deep wrinkles forming as the skin isn’t folded so much, preserving the smooth surface, and allowing collagen and elastin regeneration with other treatments.
Before treatment starts, Owen creates a precise treatment plan, marking the injection sites carefully, and in a distribution to preserve symmetry, and if appropriate for feminisation, give a slight lift to arch the brow.

Over the years, facial movements when talking, laughing or expressing emotions cause grooves that become deeper with age and eventually, the dynamic wrinkles become static (like a piece of paper being folded many, many times). As we all know, this looks ageing, but injections can slow the development or be preventative if started at an early age.
Aesthetic treatment by Owen, Advanced Aesthetic Doctor helps to empower both men and women to challenge their own ageing process, holding onto youthful radiance throughout life and feeling confident with a rejuvenated appearance.
Dr Owen will take a full medical history to assess the ideas and concerns of every patient. A full facial assessment leads to the formulation of a personalised treatment plan with bespoke outcomes for each individual patient.
For botox injections, each area of the face can be approached differently with the correct dose. Many areas such as the glabellar and forehead benefit from a combined approach with anti-wrinkle injections and dermal fillers.
Side effects from the botox injections are usually very mild, including transient headache in a minority of people and occasionally mild bruising. There are small lumps seen immediately after the injections but these fade in 5-10 minutes and many people go straight back to work or social activities. The maximum effect takes around 14 days, and lasts 3 months. You can find more information on our blog here

People often request the injections in the following areas of the face:
Injections can also be injected into the jaw muscles to help alleviate pain from teeth grinding or to slim the lower face.
Hyperhidrosis can also be treated effectively with the botulinum toxin injections if medically necessary as it blocks sweat gland formation.
These injections have been studied in trials over many years and approved by many medical regulatory bodies such as the FDA in America. If done properly, with dosages used in aesthetics, the likelihood of significant complications is very low.
Some medical conditions can mean that anti-wrinkle injections are unsuitable such as pregnancy/breastfeeding or myasthenia gravis. This will always be assessed in the medical consultation with Owen before treatment, and most people will benefit from targeted treatment as part of an overall aesthetic treatment programme.
Most people start to see some difference after 3-4 days, although it is around 10-14 days to see the maximum effect from muscle relaxing injections.
In most cases the effect lasts for around 3-4 months, sometimes longer.
Over time the nerves which have been blocked recover, but periodic maintenance treatments every 3-4 months maintain the therapeutic effect, and this can lengthen over time as the muscles become weaker.
Every person is different however, and these figures are a guide only.
Most patients find that they can continue with their normal activities on the same day after leaving the clinic. Any slight swelling around the injection site tends to settle over around 10 minutes.
Bruising can occasionally occur and cannot be prevented entirely, approximately 1 in 20 people having some visible bruising (which is usually mild).
About 5-20% of people can experience a mild transient headache but this is not typically limiting and fades away over an hour or so. Owen uses experts technique to prevent complications such as drooping of the brow with careful examination.
Drooping of the eyelid itself is a rare complication and is another reason to have treatment from a registered medical professional who has advanced training in using the injections.

Ageing is an irreversible process. Multiple factors contribute to fine lines and wrinkles as we get older, resulting in aging skin. Around the eyes is one of the most common places where we show our age.
Aging is an unavoidable aspect of the aging process. A variety of factors contribute to fine lines and wrinkles as we age, creating a ‘perfect storm’ for aged skin. Around the eyes is one of the most common places where we show our age.
Those fine lines around the eye area are referred to as “crow’s feet”. These tiny wrinkles might also be known as “smile lines” since they form when we grin. These little wrinkles may not be problematic when you’re grinning, but they are definitely detrimental when they become permanent characteristics of your face.
People usually seek advice when wrinkles around their eyes become visible when they are not moving. These are known as “static wrinkles,” and they are always visible. If these little creases only appear when a person smiles, they are called “dynamic wrinkles” and treatment can prevent them deepening or becoming static.
Ageing causes crow’s feet, but what happens to the skin during the development of static crow’s feet? As you age, collagen and elastin, two proteins present in the skin’s supportive structure, are produced in lower quantities. Because these proteins are responsible for the skin’s firm, plump look, they are primarily responsible for their production.
As you age, your skin becomes even more transparent, specifically around the eyes. Around-eye skin is already thin as tissue paper, so rubbing or pulling on it as you apply makeup can cause a negative impact on your appearance. When the skin is thin, it is more prone to developing wrinkles.
The tiny muscles around your eyes contract when you make any facial expression, not just when you smile. Since you probably cannot avoid grinning, you cannot avoid getting crow’s feet. However, certain procedures can prevent and treat these fine lines.
A strong anti-aging skincare routine is crucial. Your skin must be cleaned, toned, and moisturised properly to sustain good health. A high-quality eye cream is also critical. Using your ring finger to apply your eye cream is the best approach, as it applies the least amount of pressure to the sensitive eye region.
It is important to take other anti-ageing precautions in your lifestyle. Sunscreen, adequate sleep, water consumption, and limiting alcohol all help prevent premature skin ageing. Even with your best efforts, crow’s feet may not be prevented. Fortunately, there are several treatment options.
Despite the release of new products, therapies, and technologies, one option consistently tops the list for treating crow’s feet: Botox. This injectable is both simple and safe (it takes around 15 minutes per procedure with no downtime) and is an licensed, prescription-only treatment for wrinkles. It is very effective, but it will require ongoing sessions for maintenance.
Hyaluronic acid is used in dermal fillers like Juvederm, Restylane and Belotero to moisturize and lubricate the skin, making wrinkles appear less harsh. These injections are another popular choice for eliminating fine lines around the eyes. Touch-up procedures with dermal fillers are also necessary.
Finally Morpheus8 is a new and amazing treatment using radiofrequency energy to resurface lines which have formed and tighten the skin around the eyes.
