Face Treatment
Anti-wrinkle muscle relaxing injections can soften or eliminate the appearance of lines and wrinkles on various parts of the face.
Owen performs a full face assessment to be able to prescribe and use a natural substance which blocks nerve transmission to muscles. Botulinum toxin effectively reduces the lines and wrinkles that occur because of muscle contraction but must be used with care and expertise to avoid excess muscle weakness which can present with complications such as drooping of the brow.

Over the years, facial movements when talking, laughing or expressing emotions cause grooves that become deeper with age and eventually, the dynamic wrinkles become static (like a piece of paper being folded many, many times). As we all know, this looks ageing, but injections can slow the development or be preventative if started at an early age.
Aesthetic treatment by Owen, Advanced Aesthetic Doctor helps to empower both men and women to challenge their own ageing process, holding onto youthful radiance throughout life and feeling confident with a rejuvenated appearance.
Dr Thomas will take a full medical history to assess the ideas and concerns of every patient. A full facial assessment leads to the formulation of a personalised treatment plan with bespoke outcomes for each individual patient.
For anti-wrinkle injections, each area of the face can be approached differently with the correct dose. Many areas such as the glabellar and forehead benefit from a combined approach with anti-wrinkle injections and dermal fillers.
Side effects from the treatment are usually very mild, including transient headache in a minority of people and occasionally mild bruising. There are small lumps seen immediately after the injections but these fade in 5-10 minutes and many people go straight back to work or social activities. The maximum effect takes around 14 days, and lasts 3 months. You can find more information on our blog here

Injections can be used to address lines and wrinkles on several different facial areas, including the forehead, eye area (crow’s feet), and lip lines. It may be injected to soften chin dimpling, bunny lines, gummy smile, and help fillers work more effectively in certain areas. Injections can also be injected into the jaw muscles to help alleviate pain from teeth grinding or to slim the lower face.
These injections have been studied in trials over many years and approved by many medical regulatory bodies such as the FDA in America. If done properly, with dosages used in aesthetics, the likelihood of significant complications is very low.
Some medical conditions can mean that anti-wrinkle injections are unsuitable such as pregnancy/breastfeeding or myasthenia gravis. This will always be assessed in the medical consultation with Dr Thomas before treatment, and most people will benefit from targeted treatment as part of an overall aesthetic treatment programme.
Most people start to see some difference after 3-4 days, although it is around 10-14 days to see the maximum effect from muscle relaxing injections.
In most cases the effect lasts for around 3-4 months, sometimes longer. Over time the nerves which have been blocked recover, but periodic maintenance treatments every 3-4 months maintain the therapeutic effect, and this can lengthen over time as the muscles become weaker.
Most patients find that they can continue with their normal activities on the same day after leaving the clinic. Any slight swelling around the injection site tends to settle over around 10 minutes. Bruising can occasionally occur and cannot be prevented entirely, approximately 1 in 20 people having some visible bruising (which is usually mild). About 5-20% of people can experience a mild transient headache but this is not typically limiting and fades away over an hour or so. Owen uses experts technique to prevent complications such as drooping of the brow with careful examination. Drooping of the eyelid itself is a rare complication and is another reason to have treatment from a registered medical professional who has advanced training in using the injections.
