Body Treatment
Fat-dissolving injections are one of the most effective ways to treat a double chin (submental fullness) without resorting to surgery. This includes DesoFace, DesoBody and Belkyra.
Deoxycholic acid (DesoFace, DesoBody and Belkyra) in the fat-dissolving injections has revolutionised the treatment of stubborn fat pockets under the skin. The treatment disrupts fat cells which are broken down into small constituent parts before being absorbed through the lymphatic system and is effective over a period of around four weeks or so.
Kybella has been approved by the FDA in the USA although has been slow to reach the UK market despite being given regulatory approval. We now have the ability to use a very similar product called DesoFace. Owen has undertaken training in to administer by small needles or cannula, which works in the same way.

With a level 7 masters-level qualification in aesthetic injectable medicine, Dr. Thomas has the skills demanded to utilise new treatments such as Belkyra and DesoFace, to enhance your chin and areas of localised fatty tissue around the abdomen, back and legs.
The treatment can markedly help with chin and jawline definition and can be very helpful in conjunction with an overall full facial assessment and use of dermal fillers to restore volume around the chin and jawline given the shrinking that gradually occurs with age. Similarly, when used around the upper legs, back and abdomen it can be effective in assisting with loss of fat at those areas in conjunction with overall weight loss if indicated.

The active ingredient is deoxycholic acid, a naturally occurring substance in the body that aids in breaking down and absorbing dietary fat. When injected under the chin into the fatty tissue this destroys fat cells, resulting in a gradual and increasingly noticeable reduction in fullness in the area.
Submental fullness is a collection of excess fat beneath the chin, commonly known as a “double chin.” It can be something a person has throughout life due to genetic factors or begins to appear with ageing or alongside weight gain. Often even with significant weight loss, many people find this area is stubborn and very difficult to lose.
Since everyone is different, the number of treatments varies from patient to patient, depending on anatomical factors and the amount of fatty tissue. Typically 2-3 sessions are needed for most people depending on the amount of tissue and desired result.
Owen helps to determine how many treatment sessions you will need based on the amount and distribution of the fat under the chin and your treatment goals.
Each DesoFace fat-dissolving treatment session is given at least 1 month apart, and you should not receive more than 6 treatments.
Once destroyed, fat accumulation in the area is stopped, so in most cases, further treatment is not expected once you reach your desired aesthetic goal.
The most common side effects are swelling, pain, numbness, redness, and hardness in the treatment areas. This typically fades over 24 hours but can feel sore for a couple of days.
Adverse effects are usually mild, including redness and swelling over days as the fatty tissue begins to break down. Serious adverse effects are rare.
