Face Treatment
The nonsurgical rhinoplasty, also known as liquid rhinoplasty, uses dermal fillers to improve the profile and shape of the nose, and is a signature treatment for Dr Owen Thomas, who has trained with the top consultant in the country who pioneered the modern version of the technique.
Liquid rhinoplasty is a long-lasting alternative to surgery, with far less recovery time and can make a huge difference to the lives of our patients who have longed for a more aesthetically pleasing nose.

Dermal nose fillers are easily tolerated with a topical anaesthetic cream for numbing and can be done in approximately 15-30 minutes with a needle technique.
Owen uses a precise injection technique with small aliquots of dermal nose fillers being placed on the bone or cartilage, and moulding this with the non-injecting hand.
The nose is an area where a detailed knowledge of anatomy is essential given the extensive blood supply, so it is essential to choose an experienced and highly trained injector, ideally with a Level 7 Qualification demonstrating an in-depth knowledge of facial anatomy. Owen has undertaken advanced training with Dr Ayad Harb, Consultant Cosmetic Surgeon, who specialises in the liquid rhinoplasty, and is delighted to bring this knowledge and technique to his current and future clients in his Swansea clinic.
Premium grade dermal fillers (which tend to be more cohesive and robust) are used for the rhinoplasty including Juvederm Voluma, Restylane Lyft, and Teoxane Ultra Deep.
Once the procedure has been done, most patients need a top-up every 1-2 years, but the nose doesn’t return to it’s previous state for many years even if you don’t have maintenance treatment.

The liquid rhinoplasty is performed using high quality long-lasting dermal fillers. Bone or nasal tissue cannot be removed of course (this requires surgery) but using dermal fillers and in some cases muscle-relaxing injections can completely change and enhance the shape of your nose. It can make the nose appear thinner by changing the reflection of light on the nose.
The Liquid Nose Job most commonly smooths away unattractive bumps while making the profile of the nose more aesthetically pleasing. We can improve a ‘droopy’ appearance by elevating the nasal tip slightly. These small improvements can lead to an entirely new nose shape, which can be life-changing for those who have been unhappy for years.
For the dermal nose fillers, Dr Thomas uses premium hyaluronic acid fillers (a naturally occurring substance) which typically last more than 12 months or so to inject underneath the skin. The types of filler are selected to look natural and last as long as possible.
In some cases, if there is dynamic drooping of the tip, then muscle-relaxing injections can help alongside dermal nose fillers.
As with any medical treatment, there can be side effects although these are usually mild given that hyaluronic acid is a natural substance. Transient swelling is common with occasional redness and bruising which settle after a couple of days. Owen will discuss all possible side effects at the time of the assessment.
Serious complications are minimised with careful technique, expert knowledge of anatomy and precise injections of filler to ensure there are no serious vascular occlusions (blood vessel blockage). Also, hyaluronic acid fillers also have a substance that can break up the dermal filler and reverse the effects of blood vessel blockages.
Many patients compare the sensation of a liquid rhinoplasty to a pinprick, but your skin can be numbed with a strong local anaesthetic cream. This takes effect in approximately 5-10 minutes with minimal discomfort afterwards.
Following nonsurgical rhinoplasty, most patients find that the results are durable and long lasting, typically seen improvements for 12-18 months before there is slight softening of the area around the filler.
However this can be topped up with filler which usually will then maintain the result for the next 18-24 months.
Most people tend to have a small a top up of filler every 2 years and it is very unusual that the nose would ever revert to its previous state unless reversing filler dissolving injections (hyaluronidase) were administered.
