Misshapen nose

A misshapen nose can have a visible bump (called a dorsal hump) in one place, an indentation close to the tip or drooping of the nose.

This can considerably affect a person’s appearance and self-esteem over many years, but can be effectively treated with non-surgical rhinoplasty.

Factors such as genetics, trauma and surgery can cause a misshapen nose, often becoming more noticeable as a person ages with weakness of the soft tissue support around the nose, and bony changes in the skeleton underneath.

Although this is mainly due to the structural underlying support of the nose, some patients can also have an overactive muscle which accentuates the drooping tip and can be weakened by muscle relaxing injections.

Our solution

Owen uses his experience with assessment of the nose to consider nonsurgical rhinoplasty. Fillers help to smooth out irregularities, provide a more aesthetically pleasing shape and ensure the appearance of an appropriate nasal length.

Balance of facial features is extremely important, and so the careful use of dermal fillers can provide the illusion of a short or longer nose depending on the overall proportions of the face.

It is crucial to have an advanced/expert knowledge of the anatomy of the nose and required techniques, particularly given the significant blood supply to the nose. Owen now uses a microbolus needle technique learned from Dr Ayad Harb, the UK’s learning authority on non-surgical rhinoplasty. This gives precise and long-lasting results but done safely, which is essential given the circulation in the nose.

Severe nasal deformity may require surgical intervention, but Owen will assess this in his London and Swansea aesthetic clinic and provide expert opinion on the best treatment plan for each patient.

It is also important to consider the benefits of nonsurgical rhinoplasty in conjunction with other facial rejuvenation techniques and to ensure overall appropriate proportions using the golden ratio and measuring the upper, mid-and lower thirds of the face.
